Hello all,
I am 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby and have been Vegan for 2 1/2 years.
I am progressing through my pregnancy with out any complications, no swelling, high blood pressure - the usual "illnesses" associated with pregnancy.
To date my weight gain has been 1/2 a kilo (which is 1.2 pounds), although I did loose 6.5 kilos (15.6 pounds) with the joys of morning sickness!!
My question is... although my birthing centre is fantastic and very supportive of me being Vegan (a couple of the midwives are which definatly makes it easier not having to explain myself and defend my choices) however my last blood test for Iron came back at 111 (not sure if its the same testing measurements as in the US but "normal" is between 110 - 140). I can't remember what it was pre pregnancy but I believe it was closer to the 140 mark. They have suggested I start taking Iron supplements, I'm not sure this is the best option and was wondering what others here recommended.
