I think that you should speak to the school administrators to find out exactly what happened and address it with your son. That way, you can find out what is true or not. They may be limited as to what they can tell you, but they should be able to confirm or deny whether or not the "incident" really occurred or whether it is simple rumors. If anything, you need to know what precautions the school is going to begin taking to try to make sure this does not happen again in the future. Being able to tell your son that information could soothe his fears of going to the library if he knows that are taking steps to prevent this.
