Ok, so my 4th grader comes home yesterday and announces that there were 2 students "having sex" in the library at school. Aparently the children were discovered partially unclothed and on top of one another, according to my son. He said he thinks they're "gross" and doesn't want to go to the library alone for fear of being accused of such behavior, or being "caught by a girl" and forced to participate in such behavior. What should I do? I mean, seeing as my children weren't involved, and my son does not know, nor did he see the children being accused, I don't think that it's really my place to say anything, other than to talk with my son about his concerns, what he should do, our moral stance, and soothe his fears. I can't tell him his fears are unfounded, because I cannot say that with any amount of certainty if what he told me is true. It's really bothering me, though. I mean... he's in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL for crying out loud! and these are not only not the types of things I want my son to be worried about at 9 years old, but they're not the type of things that should ever be happening in an elementary school!! *sigh* If you've made it this far, thanks, and sorry for ranting... but the whole thing just seems so wrong! I understand that there are some kids that have, tragically been abused, and are only acting out what they have been subjected to, but... Anyway, thanks for reading, and if you have any advice or support to offer, I look forward to it. -Randie-
