typically when children are learning to use the toilet as long as they are physically able to, so like, about when they are able to dress and undress themselves including buttons and zippers. Typically sometime as a three year old or early in the year they are four. Personally, by the time any dc of mine (that didn't have extenuating circumstances) was 6 they would be learning it is not appropriate to be touched in any area covered by their underwear by anyone other than doctors unless they are sick or hurt. I think she is well past the point of traumatizing her as far as toilet issues. If she is that stubborn and aggressive, it be a dramatic experience, but not tramatic. I doubt my advice will be helpful to you, at least not with that mom ... I'd teach her how to do it over several days including what the risks of doing it wrong are, then expect her to do it or suffer the consequences. And the consequences wouldn't necessarily be getting a urinary tract infection, they would probably start out with, "You will do it properly before you may leave the bathroom".
