my question is: never mind what you knew about your daughter's grades, what did SHE know about them? IF she in fact had a solid C going in, she'd have had to really blow that exam to fail outright; if it was a low C, though, it wouldn't have taken much to score low enough on a final to put her out of passing range. If she knew she was on thin ice, was she prepared for that test? Had she talked to the teacher about the possibility of not passing?
She is not a child any longer. At this point, she's responsible for her work and her future. Where is she in all this?
Since she's in summer school for the class, I am assuming she's going to get a high school diploma at the end of the summer. As long as either the test is graded by someone other than the first teacher, or the exams are blind-scored (the grader does not know the identity of the student), she should be able to pass. So in the end, she should be okay.
As to the issue of graduation: what our school system does is allow failing students to show up with cap and gown, and when their name is called, instead of going on the stage, they simply stand up. I honestly think that may be harder than not going at all. Some school systems allow the kids to go up and shake the chief's hand, but not receive a diploma.
I think the main thing to focus on now is: school's out forever. Now, how about her future? that's all that matters now.
