To commemorate the Hiroshima bombing, the Denman Island Peace Group held an origami event today. It opened with a few remarks on the significance of the date, and recognizing the recent passing of one of the founders of both the local peace group and the much better-known Greenpeace, Jim Bohlen.

We then spent a fun couple of hours learning to make origami cranes, and then filling a bowl with them. They will be packaged up and sent to the mayor of Hiroshima. The significance of the origami crane to the Hiroshima commemoration is told in the article linked below.
