Subject: Universal Peace Day in Hiroshima (August 6, 2009)
Date: July 14, 2009 at 5:17 pm PST

As a survivor of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, the Japanese clothing designer Issey Miyake submitted an op-ed to today's New York Times, entitled "A Flash of Memory."

Mr. Miyake writes about his personal and moral responsibility to speak out against nuclear weapons, and mentions the movement in Hiroshima to invite President Obama to Universal Peace Day on August 6th (the annual commemoration of that fateful day).

Please take a few moments to read Mr. Miyake's moving piece. As peace activists, we should urge Mr. Obama to accept the invitation and walk across Peace Bridge on behalf of all Americans.

Blessings and peace,
