I can see the restrictions on carry-on liquids as a short term means of dealing with this particular conspiracy. I don't think it is reasonable in the long term. Once the culprits have been rounded up, I would like to see the regulations return to what they were. (And while we are at it, I'd like to see them allow nail clippers again. What a ridiculous thing to ban!)

The reason people carry carry-on baggage is because when your suitcase gets lost (and it will), you need to have 24 hours worth of clothes and toiletries in your possession. Being forced to check them means that you will be forced to purchase replacements when your bags get lost.

[cynical]Of course, since the same bureaucrats are in charge of making the economy grow, making you buy new stuff is a good thing, isn't it?[/cynical]

There is simply no way to stop terrorism. You make one weapon inconvenient and they will find another. You make safety precautions onerous enough and the resulting disruption accomplishes the terrorists' goals.

The only solution is to promote tolerance and oppose intolerance, to rectify the injustices that drive helpless and disempowered people to seekout simplistic violent solutions, and to oppose the ideologies of violence in whatever form and in whatever nation they occur.
