What if the state is Palestine? Did and do they have the right to self-defense when their land was taken in 1948 and is still being held by those who took it? I'm not saying that to argue, but to illustrate that the issue is much more complex than a matter of Israel defending themselves. The Palestinians feel they're defending themselves and their land, too.
