I agree with you and Jo. There is probably a time and a place for self-sacrifice, but, unless it accomplishes some specific highly valuable goal, it is a waste. In any other situation, self-protection is important. I think the pacifist approach to self-defence is to use the minimum force necessary to protect yourself (or perhaps others). You don't kill the guy if you can disable him. You don't disable him if you can talk him down. On the other hand, if you have to use those measures, you shouldn't hesitate. Keith
