Our Canadian voting system is pretty reliable too. We mark an "X" on a piece of paper, and some people count the papers by hand. Scrutineers for the various parties observe the counting. No technology (other than a pencil), no corporate interests, very little room for fraud. Preliminary results are available within an hour or two, and the complete results, even for very close ridings, are available by next morning. Recounts in individual ridings may take a couple of weeks. I'm always mind-boggled at the complexity of the U.S. voting system! Keith
