I agree Saddam is an evil person. However, what about the atrocities of China over the years...and everyday. What about their weapons of mass destruction? Yet they get "most favoured nation" trading status with us. What about the genocide that is going on in the tribal wars all across africa? What about the murderous dictators throughout south america (and even iraq and iran!) that we have put into power and keep in power? No one wants to think about any of that. If Iraq is so evil, why is the US is willing to buy 75% of the oil they produce? The only reason our president wants to go to war is to protect our nations oil interests...put a person into power their that will make sure we get "most favoured nation" status with them. And, well, showing that the US is all powerful won't hurt his image either...so why not? A great man once said (very recently), "We cannot attain peace and understanding with and of one another by bombing each others children."
