I was a skeptical about IIN for a year before I signed up, but I am happy I did the program. I enjoyed it and thought it was worth the $$. BUT, you need to understand that it's not a nutrition degree. It's a course that shows you how to help people help themselves. The focus is more on looking inward and behavior change than the specifics of food (beyond the basics like drink more water and eat greens). I'm in NYC and almost everyone I met in the program already had various college and post college degrees along with successful day jobs (in other words: they aren't trying to/need to con the IIN certificate off as a degree). They are people who recognize that most individuals know what they should be eating and how much they should exercise, they just have issues integrating those healthy habits into their lives. Doctors, nutritionists and personal trainers are all a part of the solution, but time is precious and none of the parties listed above have the time to talk to their clients about how to make these changes, eat this food, ect. Health coaches do just that. They guide, they hold people accountable and they listen.
People are REALLY unhealthy. They need help. IIN students are people who want to help. Professionals in the health field have no need to feel threatened or feel that IIN grads (or others) are parading around pretending to have a degree that they don't.

And lastly, I rarely hear of someone making a "referral". It does happen - sometimes you meet someone who is interested and you forward them on to the school. But comparisons to a MLM situation are unfounded. I blame IIN's website for that - it really gives off a sales-y/scam-y vibe - which is weird because it's so far from it.

IIN isn't for everyone and that's fine. But don't criticize unless you've tried it.
