I completely agree re: working in hospitals.
RE: the CNS and your legal right to practice, that depends on the licensure law in your state. I'm guessing you live in Cali (from the email address at the top of your msg), so check with the State Dept. of Health Services, Nutrition Consultant Unit at 916-552-8644 to see if CNS credential will get you a state license. If not, then you would not be legally entitled to see clients (except for a very narrow window of general nutrition info).

RE: credibility, that's a tougher question for the reasons I mentioned before. I would contact local CNS-credentialed nutritionists and ask them if their credibility is challenged or in doubt.

Also remember, RD cert. can still work--it just may be a more ethically-challenging program and internship, as many RDs are mainstream. I basically just learned to weed thru the mainstream ideology to get to what I needed to know.
