Hi, I am new to vegsource so I don't know how this works but I saw your email and it pulls my heart strings. Here is what I can share. I have been on a raw vegan diet for about a year. I eat only fresh friuts, vegatables, and sprouted grains. Cleansing the body is a hot topic in the raw vegan world. The general theory ( different from standard medicine)is that the amazing body will do what ever it can to rid its self of toxins. Generaly the liver dose this, but when over stressed it starts to send some of its toxins out the poors. It is said that fresh frits (espeshally citrus) are cleansing and will cause an increase of toxins to be pushed out of the body, by what ever means... resulting in what some call detox symptoms, some call it allergies. My friend's mother had rashes over her body and she now eats primarily raw foods, when she eats too much cooked foods her rashes come back. Weight loss is another classis detox symptom because as the body tries to rid itself of the unwanted it also rids its self of some of the fats with it. All of the people I know on a raw diet originaly loose weight then gain it back in a few months. I know this must sound weird, it is a totally different philosophy to allergies. My son is two and a half and I feed him foods that I imagine would have existed 200 years ago. The average family did not have access to animal flesh every day, that was saved for Sunday dinners ( it takes tons of work for the body to break down animal muscles) dairy was used as a condament. Reifined sugar was very scarce ( my son is not allowed any, he has never had it and dose not know what it is. Tasting good in the mouth is not an indication it is good for your body). I try to feed my son foods with natural ingredients, whole griains, no preservatives. I ask my self "Dose this food occoure naturaly on our planet, filled with usable nutrients. Was this food created by humans, containing pesticides and preservatives, tons of junk that my body is only going to have to clean out." I read the labels on my son's food. My fresh food has no labels. When the label has long words that don't sound like an ingredient God made I don't buy it.
I can't imagine how this reply must sound to you, I was totaly knocked off my feet to think of nutrition in this way. If you are interested I can give you the email for my friends mother who had rashes.
One fantastic food is sweet green smoothies. They are being publicised by Victoria Boutenko, you can look her up on the internet. Every person I have ever know to try these likes them, from my son to my friends kids to my sister's family. Put any fruit in the blender with a handfull of fresh greens, water and blend. It is like the drink in the health food stores called Green Machine. I typically juice oranges, add a bannana and a handfull of fresh spinach, my son loves it. Pears with bannana and spinach is good too.
A good resource could be the garden diet.com
If you are interested I can give you some book titles
Good Luck,
Amber
