Dee, Thanks for your post. Although it's off-topic, there's some info on MS in Neal Barnard's book, "Food for Life" (1993). He refers to Dr. Roy Swank's book "The Multiple Sclerosis Diet Book" (1987). A search of the research reveals inconclusive evidence for gluten-free diets and MS----that is, some patients do apparently derive benefit, while others don't. There seems to be no clear answer on why this is, but here's a few guesses: 1) maybe there are different types of MS which may respond differently to therapies. 2) maybe some of the MS patients in the research really did not have MS 3) maybe the research showing no benefit did not study the patients long enough to see a benefit. One thing that did seem apparent was that gluten-sensitivity may be an effect, not a cause, of MS.... that is, MS may cause changes in GI function that inappropriately allow wheat proteins to enter the bloodstream, generating an allergic response, theregy producing a gluten sensitivity and producing your symptoms.
