Subject:         "energy" bars

Hi Jeff,

I have a sweet tooth and eat a lot of vegan "energy" bars. My question is whether sweeteners such as maple syrup, organic evaporated cane juice and organic brown rice syrup are any healthier than sugar. These are the typical sweeteners used in the "energy" bars I like (Cliff Bar etc). Other ingredients include soy protein isolate and chicory syrup.

Is there any nutritional value whatsoever in these so-called "protein" bars or are they all just empty calories?
