Hi Jeff
I appreciate your forum very much. It is informative.
I am a 50 year old asian male with coronary artery disease. I currently have 5 stents and have had a heart attack back in 2004.
My cholesterol is around 165 total.. HDL is around 40, LDL is around 100, and Trigylcerides are around 120. These numbers are with a Statin (Pravachol) and Zetia. Without medication, my total cholesterol is around 230. This is even with a Vegan type diet following the basic principles from Dr. McDougall/Esselstyn.
My questions are:
1) Would you recommend Fish Oil to further lower Triglycerides or possibly a little of the LDL?
2) What about taking L-Arginine to improve Nitric Oxide levels?
3) Any other diet or nutrition suggestions?
I exercise regulary, do not smoke, am not diabetic, do not have HBP, and not overweight (155 lbs at 6 feet tall). Most people including Doctors are simply "shocked" to hear I have heart disease.
My major problem is stress from work/life. I do not have a family history of heart disease. Prior to my heart attack, I did eat poorly and my total cholesterol was around 270. And I definitely did not watch what I was eating
In case you think these are risk factors, my Homocysteine level is around 10 and hs-CRP (C-Reactive Protein) is low around 0.3.
Any advice would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for your time in advance.
Brian
