While I do not think microwaves are very useful, as they are not a very effective at doing more than simple heating of small item, or reheating food, or cooking highly processed highly refined packaged foods (which I do not recommend consuming regardless of how they are cooked) , I do not know of any convincing evidence that they are either harmful, detrimental or a concern.

I think most Americans have to worry much more about the food they are eating then the method of heating it. Also, most of the concerns about the negative effects of heating (or better yet, over heating) foods, is on the effects of heating on animal protein, animal fat, high fat foods, and charred foods, which are all items i would not recommend consuming regardless of how it was cooked.
