Hi Alex
I think people should consume the whole fruit instead of the juice.
Fruit juice is a processed, refined and concentrated food, lacking in fiber. Liquid calories in general provide little if any satiety. It can effect blood sugar to a greater extent than a piece of whole fruit.
Whole fruit is very low in calorie density, high in satiety and nutrient density.
Adding whole fruit to ones diet generally lowers the total calorie density and reduces total calorie intake, and increases nutrient intake.
Adding juice (or other liquid calories) to ones diet can increase total caloric intake.
An 8 oz glass of soda has bout 100 calories and 27 grams of sugar and no fiber. An 8 oz glass of orange juice has about 100 calories and 21 grams of sugar and maybe 1/2 gram of fiber.
However, if someone was consuming a very healthy diet centered on whole natural foods and in good health, I don't see the harm in an occasional serving (4-6oz) of fresh fruit (or vegetable) juice.

Jeff
