I am very familiar with Dr Furhman and his books and have an acknowledgment in one of them.

I think periodic fasting can be an integral part of someones health regime, though it is not necessary.

"Juicing" which many people think of as fasting, is not fasting, but a juice diet. It may, in and of itself, has some benefit on occasion.

The benefits of health come from living healthy on a regular basis and what you do day in and day out. Periodic fasting can be part of that. However, too often people use periodic fasting to compensate for their unhealthy indiscretions and in that case it can create an unhealthy cycle. And some people make it into a sporting event and see who can do it the most often or the longest, and neither one of those is healthy.

Rest is an important component of health. And, occasional periods of rest, even from eating and digestion, can be of benefit. I take part in them myself on a semi regular basis, some short term, and some longer term.

Learning to live well everyday however is what I think is the most important key to living a healthy life.
