Jeff;
I thought you might find this short overview article of the "Hacker's Diet" interesting. It allows people to eat any food they want.
It combines old fashioned calorie counting ( no more a nuisance than counting carbs or fat, plus a lot more flexibility ), food diaries, scales, feedback, data smoothing, and some nifty software to make a very flexible, scientifically based system for eating ( see physicsdiet.com )
What I like is that it has a built in maintenance plan. You get daily feedback about where your weight is headed so you can correct problems while they are still small ( and your clothing still fits ).
I've used this system with a high bulk, low processed vegan diet to lose about 36 pounds since the middle of January.
I'm not claiming it is a magic bullet, but I thought you might like to read about it as another rational, scientifically based alternative way of weight management
