Happened across your post while researching a story I'm writing, and wanted to reply. While I'm no doctor and don't think I'm allergic to figs, I have the same symptoms (burning tongue and lips) after eating melons, walnuts, and pecans, among other things. A few years back I read an article in Parents magazine that stated this might be signs of another allergy, like ragweed (which I AM allergic to)--the proteins in the fruit or food are close enough to those in the pollen that an allergic-type reaction occurs. I haven't gotten tested, just minimized my intake of those things. Don't know if that's what's going on, but thought I'd add another perspective. Consulting with a doctor is always a thought :) Good luck!
