My coach told me, I have found this to be very true, pure fructose delays gastric emptying, delays the absorption of sodium and fluids and delays the delivery of carbs to the muscles. It makes it harder to pound hard the next day. It causes much gastric distress in any form. Fruit, especially bananas, in any form, is not ideal for intense training and causes me a lot of gastric distress. My problem is mostly an imbalance of water and sodium from the large volume of fluid loss. I need to make sure both are absorbed optimally or somehow I lose less sodium when I train. Drinking pure water has caused me problems. Although I am not sure it is healthy, the more simple sugars in small amounts with sodium seems to work best.
