Hi Andy I recommend people find the type of exercise they enjoy the most. My favorites are the simplest ones that involve the least equipment. These include walking, running, jogging, sprinting, calisthenics, body weight exercises, jump rope and bicycling. The amount of exercise needed to obtain and maintain the benefits of exercise is not that much. Aerobic benefit can be obtained in as little as 20-30 minutes, 3-5x/wk. Strength benefit can be obtained in as little as 10-20 minutes 2-3x/wk. Flexibility and balance can be obtained in as little as 5-10 min several times a week.
