Hi Carl >>>What percentage of your calories should come from proteins, fats, and carbs. >my friend follows an 811 nutrient ratio with 80% or more calories from carbs and 10% or less from fats and 10% or less from protein...do u agree w/this nutrient caloric ratio? I do not have a specific recommendation however, nor do I recommend basing someones dietary intake on the Macronutrient ratio's. There is much more to health and diet than just macro nutrient levels. In addition, for the ratio's you recommend above, I could design a diet that is healthy and one that is unhealthy so there is more to this than macronutrient levels. While there are several populations that do (or did) follow a diet that is close to an 80/10/10 ratio including the long lived Okinwans, the Peruvian Highlands and the Tarahumara Indians, I know of no evidence that this ratio is optimal or "must" be followed as there are other long lived populations who follow different macronutrient ratio's. However, unlike current proponents of the 80/10/10, none of these populations follow a raw diet, a vegan diet, or a fruit based diet. The predominant food in the diets of these populations is either sweet potatoes, potatoes, corn or a similar starch based food. In Health Jeff
