thank you for your post. i was just showing the numerous studies, all of which contradict one another. i get lost which one to believe and if they apply to ME. these just showed how low protein does not mean low calcium is ok. i will ask my dr. if he knows of a veg. based nutritionist that will accept my insurance. i actually want to be vegan since i love animals and turned off by meat. but right now more important is my health but i still want to be as vegan as i can be. my break is from a sports accident not related to bone health, but since i had to wait to get it fixed, the broken piece in the middle died and i was left with a big gap to heal. i probably didnt heal since my body rejected the graft. the next surgery is bone taken from my hip/leg to put in my arm. but since i have always been underweight, the pressure from drs. and family members to eat a rich animal based diet seems more so. i assume i do need more protein and calcium now. vegan diets are not considered healthy by my family or drs. at this time and since i do not have osteoporosis, it makes me look bad. i am now trying more sources of calcium but i wish i knew better what, if anything, i could do to help. my moms friend is now in the hospital having had surgery having some of his stomach/intestines removed from cancer. he was normal/thin man. he lost 15 lbs already and now my mom is talking about how nice it will be for him to have latkes (jewish dish) and a rich turkey dinner once he can eat. right now they are forcing him milkshakes, i'm sure ensure plus filled with sugar. i do believe with cancer sugar feeds it???? seems like being thin is worse to them then cancer!? so now i feel moreso not sure to trust drs. thats why i am researching it as i know if i see a nutritionist i will be required to eat 7 ounces of meat a day. i wont do that! i am not the normal person who is at risk for heart disease and diabetes. i am very small framed, underweight, and was very active but heathy otherwise who is not healing for some reason. i was maintaining my weight but lost recently out of frustration. do you know how i can find out if plant based nutritionists take insurance and where to locate one? i do not have money now since i'm unemployed, if not i will keep researching on my own as i do have 2 degrees and very literate.
