Hi Claudine
Thanks for your post.
I am not a vegan advocate or recommending a vegan diet "per see." Vegan diets can be very unhealthy as I have mentioned here many times. Being vegan does not automatically equal being healthy. There are several studies that show problems with vegans in general, and as you pointed out, calcium may be one of those areas, as is B12.

However, I am a health advocate, recommending people ensure the optimal intake of all needed nutrients and minimize and/or eliminate all known harmful components while maximizing all other aspects of their lifestyle, with diet being only one of them. And, I will help those who want to accomplish this as a vegan if they so choose. But there is much more involved, as I posted above, then just stopping the intake of animal products.
BTW, while your MD may disagree with me, Dr Walter C. Willett, M.D.,who is chair of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health and a professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School, agrees.

There is much more to the picture than just calcium, dairy and/or protein.
I think it is vitally important for you to find a sympathetic health care professional whom you can trust and feel comfortable with to work with.
Thanks
Jeff
