The 1996 government statistics bureau report is not accurate? The numbers you provided appear to include the diets of "Okinawans and other Japanese," and are from 1950? (as shown for Table 1) Nonetheless, 2-3 ounces of soy per day does appear to be consistent with the number range that I provided too, given that the values were per household per week, not per individual per day. Note that, by your numbers for Okinawans/Japanese, soy and other legumes make up about 65% of the protein calories consumed (6% of total calories, protein is 9% of total calories). So that's over 25 grams daily of their total 39 gram daily protein intake -- quite a significant portion, actually.
