Thanks for your quick reply Jeff.
"First, I would be curious as to how you know you are meeting
and/or surpassing all your nutrient needs?"
I don't know for sure if I am meeting all my nutrient needs and I
will work on finding out.
"Second, If you are truly meeting all your nutrient needs, and you
need to increase your caloric intake, then I recommend you
consume more of the foods that you enjoy and work for you,
regardless if that is more fruits, veggies, starchy veggies, intact
whole grains, legumes or some nuts/seeds."
Sounds good.
"The benefits of calorie restriction by itself surpasses the benefits
of calorie restriction and exercise in regard to longevity."
I would not want to convince Jack Lalanne this. It's about quality,
not quantity. So what If I live to be 100+ if my last years I'm not fit
enough to enjoy an independent lifestyle. Calorie restriction
without regular exercise will not maintain a healthy mind, body,
and spirit.
"I would rather see someone maintain a healthy BMI (18.5-22) from
calorie restriction and moderate exercise, then from a higher
calorie level and a higher exercise level."
Even at 50, I can easily maintain a BMI of 20 without partaking in
calorie restriction. If I need to intake a bit more nutrition to
maintain a higher "fitness" level--that's fine with me.
Thanks again Jeff and best of health to you.
Tim
