I had a persistant cought when I quit several years ago, and it felt as though I had a severe case of bronchitis. Your lungs contain little hair like projections called cillia that move crud out of them to be expelled. When you smoke these cillia are paralysed, so conjestion results. What you are experiencing could be the cillia coming back to life and doing their job. My discomfort only lasted a couple of weeks, if it has not cleared by the time you read this, you should see a doctor. Congratulations on quitting, I know it is very hard, but I can tell you that the very occasional colds that I now get are nothing compared to what it was like when I smoked. Well done, and I do hope that you soon recover and regain your health. Let us know how you get on.
