Hi... Don't know if I'll be much help here. If by any chance you have a Whole Foods Market or a Wild Oats (sometimes called Alfalfa's) in your town, call them right away. I've known both of them to make egg and dairy-free cakes - I'm not sure about soy-free, but if you can talk to a baker and explain your situation, they might be willing to work with you and come up with some ideas. You'll probably pay a small fortune for the cake, but it will solve your problem. My next suggestion... Make your own. I'm pasting a link to a website that has several good dessert recipes, and the brownies, in particular, could help you out. Unfortunately, many of the cakes call for Earth Balance which contains soy oil, but the brownies don't. I think the cocoa cake doesn't, either, and that one is particularly easy. I'd suggest decorating it with candy sprinkles or something like that. You can also try searching VegSource for a cake recipe that will work for you. You'll find lots with no eggs or dairy, but some may call for Earth Balance, so be careful. Don't rule out making fruit muffins, either - you can bake them in tiny heart-shaped pans, or star-shaped, etc. (Note most of these recipes were tested at high altitude, in Denver, CO - but I've had pretty good luck with the cocoa cake at regular altitudes as well. Haven't tried most of the others. Just watch how fast they bake!) Also - what about a platter of cookies in fun shapes, instead? It would be a time-consuming project, but it's a possibility - maybe easier to clean up afterwards. Or, maybe a pie, or a few cartons of Rice Dream (double check ingredients, but I'm pretty sure it's soy free). If the guests are all in the same general age range, frankly, they probably won't care if it's birthday cake, or ice cream, or creme brulee, as long as it has sugar in it! RS
