I have a soy allergy and eating chocolate with soy lecithin makes me feel very bad. What I have learned is that the effect of eating things to which I am allergic is cumulative (along with my airborne allergies), so although I may be able to eat a small amount with no adverse affects, if I try more I feel horrible! For example, I was in a week long class for work where they provided snacks. One day I ate a miniature choc bar and felt fine. A few days later, my chocoholism took over and I ate 5 of them. I ended up losing 6 hours study time because my reaction to the soy is like being drunk - I can't think straight and I have to wait for it to get out of my system. So although your son may not have a reaction to a small amount of soy on a good day, if he has hayfever, he may react to the same amount differently when pollen is high. Soy is soy whether it is in margarine, chocolate, mayonnaise, etc.
