Just some anecdotal information about enlarged adenoids, my daughter has had them for quite some time. She "snorts" a lot and wakes up in the morning with a sore throat just about every morning. I took her to a regular MD and then to an ENT. Both doctors said that at this age kids get them a lot and they will outgrow them, there is nothing you can do. I also did reading and research on the internet and found the same "advice."
So anyway I know that my daughter, who is 12, eats cheese when she's away from home, mostly at her dad's. She doesn't drink milk, but she will eat ice cream if it is there. I am vegan and she eats vegan with me and likes vegan food and vegetables, very easy eater, but she gives in to social pressure outside of the home and eats dairy.
So I was reading in John Robbins' book for the hundredth time, Diet for a New World, and it made a passing comment about one of the problems associate with dairy being enlarged adenoids. I told my daughter to lay off any dairy products to see if it would help.
She has been doing that for about a week, and although I can't confirm it by having a doctor stick a tube up her nose to look, but she hasn't been having trouble with her adenoids, no sore throats, no snorting (which was really annoying!!)
I intend to push this issue with her and keep her off dairy, and hopefully the lack of discomfort from the enlarged adenoids will convince her not to go to the "dark side" anytime soon. I do, of course, have good alternatives here that she eats, Follow your Heart cheese, homemade cheeses and spreads, soy ice cream and soy and almond milks.
Just anecdotal, for anyone interested. This is just one more example in a long list of examples of where doctors do nothing for you, charge big bucks and I find the answer in a nutrition or herbal remedy book. I have found the way to fix bladder infections, yeast infections, ear infections, all that really work, things doctors will only prescribe antibiotics or drugs for that treat only the symptom and not the root cause. And if you're talking about the overuse of antibiotics, although the vast majority are used in animal agriculture, this is another example of where they can be avoided by the use instead of natural, effective preventative and treatment methods.
