Please see the following link. These are examples of school districts that have taken action to better how they are feeding the kids. Also referenced is Natural Ovens, a bakery in Wisconsin that provides very healthy alternatives at the same cost as the junk. They provide sugar free whole grain bagels, smoothie mixes with flax seed, etc. The Sundance award winning movie SuperSize Me refers to this program and the difference it has made with an alternative school and student behavior. I have a keen interest in this topic as my kids are about to leave their home school santuary complete with nutritious vegetarian meals and enter the public school system, this particular one serves mainly fast food. Now, my kids love junk, but their brain and bodies don't. I just may push this school district to make a big change.
