I began getting 3-day migraines from dairy at age 18. Since I am now nearly 58, it's been a long time. You definitely have my sympathy.

If you aren't afraid to be creative, to read labels, and to tell restaurant waitstaff, "hold the cheese/sour cream/creamy dressing, sauce, dip, etc., you can do pretty well.

Soymilk is wonderful these days. If I don't have it, I make rice milk at home, or whizz a banana with some water in the blender for milk on my cereal.

Earth Balance and Blue Bonnet Lite are great butter substitutes.

Tofu makes up to sour creme.

There are some knock-your-socks-off ice creams out there that are non-dairy.

Stay away from "non-dairy" whipped toppings, like Cool Whip, and also Coffeemate. The front label lies.

The pizza suggestions in the other reply was very good. I just tough it out when we go out for pizza and get it without cheese. Some places are better than others, and it's kind of fun "collecting" your favorites. There will be some duds in the mix; live with it.

Restaurant food is still the hardest because so little is prepared from scratch back in the kitchens. It's all from cans and boxes and, really, you just can't know what's in your meal in any detail. Do the best you can. For a while, it might help to keep a journal of what you order and the name of the restaurant, and whether you get a migraine from it. After a while, you'll know what's safe to get and so it gets easier to eat out.
