My husband found a kitten lying on the side of the road today. Vet says he is about 8 weeks. He is very thin, dehydrated, gums are pale. He had no ear mites, no sign of infection, one minor scrape on his back, no other sign of injury. His body temperature was way too low, 94.
They gave him warm sub cutaneous fluids, he is feline luekemia negative and he ate what they called "critical care" food, (high fat, protien and calories).
I can't worm him until he perks up, he isn't eating much but ate quite a bit earlier at the vet. He doesn't seem to know what to do with water bowl, sticks his nose in it and sputters, I'm forcing fluids with a syringe.
He is super lethargic, doesn't react at all to my big dogs, doesn't get up unless I move him. He is passing alot of gas and has not pee'd. Husband said he pooped in his work van after he found him. He purrs almost non stop, I've been walking around with him for hours wrapped up in a blanket. I have two other cats and I have a seperate room for him when I have to set him down for a minute or two.
I'm worried because he isn't perking up at all yet, vet saw him about six hours ago. Is there anything else I can do and what are his chances here? The vet thought he had a good shot. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation? And yes, he has a forever home here if I can pull him through.
Thanks
samantha
