Peak leaves for "Western" NY, second week of October (traditional). It's been a little cool so East and North; higher elevations areas just might be at 30% to 50% last week of September.

Take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. "Free" cruise between Manhattan and Staten Island. Cruises right by Liberty Island for the best photo opportunities.

Couple of years ago NYC offered 24 hour subway passes; unlimited on/off. They cost us $5/person. No fiddling around w/change all day. Great way to travel around NYC.
