Your post surprised and delighted me, as I think about this move and "What to do?" more than just about anything else at this time. I celebrated my 65th birthday on Aug. 25 (with a giant baked sweet potato with toppings, served with a canldle.)
Do you mind my asking the name of the complex your mother lives in, and where it is located in the panhandle? It sounds very well managed and maintained. One difficulty in searching long-distance is not being able to see the buildings I am applying to.
The area where you live is another choice of mine, because of my having a daughter in Bradenton, a son in the Orlando area (Celebration), a friend of almost 50 years in Venice, and another long time friend now working at a Hospice in the Tampa area at a Woman' Center, and friends in the Brandon and Ruskin areas (along with all that great fresh produce). --and 'cause FL "feels" like home to me.
The Pine Island (Matlacha) area is another place of interest to me, but I think I will choose farther north because of having married children in AL and TN, also.
