Hi,

I have been going back and forth between a low carb diet and a vegetarian diet (either the Rice diet or Mcdougalls (sp)). I have a few questions that I never fully got answered and I was wondering if maybe someone could help.

1. It does not seem logical that if you have diabetes you should increase the starches in your diet. Whether you are insulin resistant or you don't make enough insulin it seems that adding more startches would make it worse. Can someone explain why this does not happen?

If a person is addicted to sugar, then by doing a Mc Dougall diet seems like you are having an alchoholic go into a bar but not drink. How do you handle sugar cravings if you can eat sweet things?

If processed foods are bad why are TVP and meatless hotdogs acceptable Mcdougall foods? Aren't they processed?

I hope someone can help. I have a 17 year old daughter who is not feeling well and the only thing the doctor can come up with is she is not eating well. But the big question is what is eating well? Also can you do this on a low food budget?

Thanks for any help.

Shari
