I met Dave in Jan 2003 and we married in October 2003. I wouldn't throw him back for all the world. I know that my discomforts are well within the 'normal' range for older newlyweds.

He eats toast with PB for breakfast, ham or turkey sandwiches for lunch, and sweets after dinner almost every other day. His weight is down from his all-time high of around 320. He's 240-250, which is about what it was when I met him. He is a type 2 diabetic, just like me.

I suppose if I put more effort into actually cooking appetizing meals for him, that we would find new favorites. But I haven't. Last week, I made the recipe entitled 'Quinoa Guts' which I found at www.fatfree.com, and he liked it very well. He very much likes the Quorn meat substitutes. We went to diabetes education classes, where the focus is on moving from SAD to lower-fat SAD. That didn't help me much.

He does very much enjoy frozen treats. We've tried some sorbets and soy substitutes, but right now he's stuck on Dreyers double-churned Light, which says it is 50% less fat. yippee.

With the ice cream, strangely enough, there's sort of a 'you don't expect me to drink alone' dynamic, where he very much wants me to eat ice cream if he's eating ice cream. Thankfully, he has learned that I really can be satisfied with a taste (meaning 1/4-1/2 cup) as opposed to his 3-4 large scoops. I really do not like sorbets or frozen-juice-popsicle type treats.

He also likes, as comfort food when he is sick, cream of chicken soup, made with milk, and saltines. YUUUUUUGGGGHHHH! Last go-round, I got some miso soup cups, including a McDougall Right Foods (not intentionally, I swear) product, and he said that they were OK! Such a victory. I'll have to go back. That was the McDougall RightFoods Miso soup with Ginger & Garlic. Perfect for sick tummy, if you ask me.

Alas. Life is one-day-at-a-time, and we all make choices daily. Perhaps he will watch the videos or have a health crisis which will introduce enough fear into him to motivate him to change his ways. It's hard to watch this closely, though.

Thanks for your kind words. I'm always happy to know I can post here.
