Sometimes I've been better able to do things when I take myself into account! When I was a lot younger I would start doing things without really taking into account my preferences, and such. Now that I'm older, I know myself (at least a little better) and can do things like make changes gradually (if I attempt to change too much overnight, I tend to rebel), have flexibility (can't handle things that are too rigid). I have a dietary list that is flexible. If absolutely nothing else is available, I will consume egg whites, that kind of thing.
Since you know you like to mix things up, maybe design four different healthful diets that you can cycle through throughout the year? I don't know what your restrictions are as far as your health concerns, but I'm quite sure you could design something that would allow you to mix it up when you start to go to your next cycle. Just a thought.
I actually do that quite a bit myself. Go through periods with lots of smoothies, soy protein shakes, etc. Then I might go through a 90% or more raw phase. Then I jump back to 12 day, and then I'm back to MWL, because 12 day tends to bloat me a bit.
One change I made last year that shocked me was I gave up caffeine. I was a major java junkie. I'm really glad I did, but I've found that decaf soy lattes can be just as addictive. I think that those will get deleted next week as I try to get back on track and away from this junk food veg*n thing I've been doing for the past month.
