Subject: CWD--comments from a hunter (RAP RENDERED ANIMAL PROTEIN) Mt. Horeb/Dane Co. CWD source QDM
Date: November 12, 2002 at 2:35 pm PST
Greetings, i took this off a Hunters message board...TSS There seems to be an ever growing correlation between using commercial feed containing "animal products" and CWD. Whether the feeding takes place in a game farm, high fenced hunting area, or on someone's private property, there is strong evidence linking the use of such feed products and CWD. Before using a commercial feed (yes, it is still being sold and used) read the "ingredients" label.
Below is an email from a good friend in WI. He had mentioned to me the connection between some QDM practices and CWD. I asked him to explain. I have to agree (dispite the fact class envy comes into play here) that in the case of the Mt. Horeb/Dane Co. CWD source QDM, actually supplemental feeding used w/ QDM caused the problem. The Madison Times followed the first reports of sick deer from 97' back to one group in Dane Co. who were feeding deer RAP (rendered animal protein) mixed in with deer feed to promote antler growth. Think back to Mad Cow disease in Europe, feeding RAP to ruminats was found to be the cause. BTW, there is now a Federal warning on bags of RAP (yes, they still sell this sh*t) saying DO NOT FEED to ruminants. Too late now... If you have ever seen the assortment of dead and disease killed rotting animals collected for rendering NO one in their right mind would want to feed a by-product of this sh*t to anything! But they did... results CWD here, Mad Cow in Europe. You will find me agreeing with the Madison Times about as much as the Chief Rabbi of Israel agrees with Saddam Hussien, but this time I think they hit it right on the head. People got greedy, wanted to grow "Superbucks" right in their own back 40, and decided to give nature a "helping hand". Like my Grandpa used to say: "you get greedy, you get stupid, you get f*cked" (it probably rhymed in Russia where he heard it) I sure hope my deer is Ok, as we have had 2 meals already. It was boned out per WI DNR spec.s Take Care, ============== i must give this Hunter credit. i hope others take his lead and can see the trees through the forest. many don't, course when they put into place the beef-on-bone ban in the UK due to the risk of CJD from beef, they fought for a place in line to purchase that beef? go figure... man did it, now man has to stop it...TSS Subject: MAD DEER/ELK DISEASE AND POTENTIAL SOURCES Date: Sat, 20 Jul 2002 09:43:10 -0700 From: "Terry S. Raymond, Owner Sandy Lake Mills 26 Mill Street P.O. Box 117 Sandy Lake, PA 16145 PHILADELPHIA DISTRICT Tel: 215-597-4390 Dear Mr. Raymond: Food and Drug Administration Investigator Gregory E. Beichner conducted an inspection of your animal feed manufacturing operation, located in Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania, on March 23, 2001, and determined that your firm manufactures animal feeds including feeds containing prohibited materials. The inspection found significant deviations from the requirements set forth in Title 21, code of Federal Regulations, part 589.2000 - Animal Proteins Prohibited in Ruminant Feed. The regulation is intended to prevent the establishment and amplification of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) . Such deviations cause products being manufactured at this facility to be misbranded within the meaning of Section 403(f), of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act). Our investigation found failure to label your swine feed with the required cautionary statement "Do Not Feed to cattle or other Ruminants" The FDA suggests that the statement be distinguished by different type-size or color or other means of highlighting the statement so that it is easily noticed by a purchaser. In addition, we note that you are using approximately 140 pounds of cracked corn to flush your mixer used in the manufacture of animal feeds containing prohibited material. This flushed material is fed to wild game including deer, a ruminant animal. Feed material which may potentially contain prohibited material should not be fed to ruminant animals which may become part of the food chain. The above is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of deviations from the regulations. As a manufacturer of materials intended for animal feed use, you are responsible for assuring that your overall operation and the products you manufacture and distribute are in compliance with the law. We have enclosed a copy of FDA's Small Entity Compliance Guide to assist you with complying with the regulation... blah, blah, blah... http://www.fda.gov/foi/warning_letters/g1115d.pdf =================================================== now, what about those 'deer scents' of 100% urine', and the prion that is found in urine, why not just pass the prion with the urine to other deer...
