Mad cow disease case found in Austria -ministry

VIENNA (Reuters) - A case of mad cow disease has been found in Austria, the second in this Alpine country's history, the health and agriculture ministries said on Tuesday.

The ministries issued an invitation to a news conference to provide information on a case of the deadly brain-wasting disorder, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), in Austria. The news conference would be held at 1700 GMT, it said.

"We have just received confirmation of the BSE case. We will only be able to give details at the press conference," Gerhard Popp, a spokesman for the agriculture ministry said.

"This is the second case of BSE in Austria," he added.
