Lower house lawmakers to check U.S. efforts on BSE

Friday, June 10, 2005 at 07:23 JST
TOKYO — A House of Representatives panel will send a fact-finding mission to the United States on a weeklong trip from June 20 to check the effectiveness of U.S. steps to shield its cattle industry from mad cow disease, panel officials said Thursday.

The delegation of six lawmakers from the lower house's Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will inspect meat-processing plants and animal feed facilities in some Midwestern states after meeting in Washington with U.S. government and beef industry officials. (Kyodo News)

ha ha, the lawmakers in this tour will be bought out from the moment they step of the plane, but will they be convinced enough to encourage Japan's govt. to lift the beef ban?

The meat-processing plants and animal feed facilities are being scrubbed now while all the mad cows are quietly being turned into pet food or Republican senators.

There's actually an interesting comparison between the American beef and auto industries - poor management, incentives required to sell both and little quality in either.

Sushi (is a better alternative)
