ARTICLE A 58-year-old woman was confirmed on Monday as the first Turk to contract a new variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (nvCJD), passed on from meat tainted with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE, or mad-cow disease). A report prepared by the Agriculture Ministry Inspection Board blamed several former ministers and bureaucrats for allowing the import of meat and meat products that could have been contaminated. Since 1996, when the first case was reported, 141 people have died in Britain from nvCJD. http://www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/article.php?enewsid=13476 TSS
