USDA is closing the gap..... with TI Canada was the first one (in NA) on using RFID to manage its herd... on a voluntary and experimentally basis of course.... then Mexico fall for it as GW ordered Fox to obtain the TI system... Now that Canada and Mexico are "using" (it doesn't work) TI system, US will have no choice but to acquire and implement the same system as its NAFTA partners..... and the hell with competition.... Texas Instruments owns the patent and all rights on HDX (half duplex) tech, which nowadays is outdated and almost obsolete as it has never proved to be useful on animal id..... With a system and a policy like the one in Mexico, cattlemen are the ones that will be running the show as several of them work for/with TI. They will go for ear tags and not implantable; why? because you can exchange tags or denied that such cattle wasn't theirs in case it is found sick or the other way around..... also they will be ISO complaint.... that means it can be duplicated, altered or modified (if they use re-write transponders) very easy and in no time, without touching the animal... this Johann and his BSE policies are a hoot...
