Doe positive for wasting disease
A 11/2-year-old doe shot in northern Sauk County outside a zone where
the chronic wasting disease is known to exist has tested positive for
the disease, the state Department of Natural Resources said Monday.
This is the third positive deer detected in Sauk County and the
northernmost positive deer found in the county, the DNR said. The
previous two were shot near the Lower Wisconsin River, about 8 miles south.
The deer was shot during the state's nine-day gun season last month.
So far, 4,018 deer have been tested for the disease in Sauk County over
the past three years, including 458 thus far this year.
The DNR said the boundaries for chronic wasting disease could be
expanded in 2005.

received by the Department of Natural Resources, from the Wisconsin
Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and other labs. If you do not see
complete results for a deer, county, or deer management zone, please be
patient. Tests results will be added as soon as they become available.
We release information on negative test results within a day after they
are received. We release information on positive test results as soon as
they are confirmed and we have contacted the hunter.
