General News A deadline of midnight Monday passed without the Texas House authorizing a bill that would have reopened Dallas Crown Inc. in Kaufman and Beltex Corp. in Fort Worth. The U.S. horse slaughter industry has been dealt a series of blows lately. The third U.S. horse slaughter plant, Cavel International in DeKalb, Ill., looks to be the victim of a ban on horse slaughter in Illinois, which Gov. Rod Blagojevich is expected to sign.
