Fire shuts down veal packer by Pete Hisey on 1/23/2006 for Meatingplace.com There were no injuries resulting from the fire, and the office area was salvaged, but the production floor of the 40,000-square-foot plant appears to be a total loss. Golden Veal is owned by Atlantic Veal & Lamb, the company identified as shipping portions of spinal column along with a regular air shipment of veal to Japan last week, leading to the re-closing of the Japanese market to U.S. beef products. Atlantic has since been de-listed as an authorized source for beef exported to Japan.
